New milestone

It seems I've passed another milestone with Joshua. Joshua's has been sucking his thumb ever since he stopped using his pacifier at 3 months. He would suck his thumb while riding in the van, or watching TV or when he was ready to go to sleep. And while he sucks his thumb, he plays with his belly button with the other hand. So, since he turned 2 and I noticed it was getting a little less, but he was still relying on it, I thought I would try to do something to speed up the process. I went online and read some reviews about Thum - the nasty stuff you put on their thumbs and it had both positive and negative results. So, it was basically a 50/50 chance that it would work for your child, so I tried it and I got great results! The first few times I put it on, he would start to put it in his mouth and make a yucky face and I would say, "Don't put your thumb in your mouth, it's yucky!" And he would say, "It's yucky? Why mom?" (He's so cute!) He actually has stopped putting his thumb in his mouth even when he doesn't have any of it on his thumb! He just automatically thinks it's going to be gross to put in his mouth now! I'm so relieved that this has seemed to work! Now it's only been about a week, so I'm going to keep using it until it's gone. But, for a week now he hasn't sucked his thumb in the van or on the couch or to go to sleep. He'll still play with his belly button though! Now, my only negative result is that it takes him longer to fall asleep now for naps or bedtime, but he'll get used to it and now I'm not worrying so much about him sucking his thumb in kindergarten and messing up his teeth! Thank you to Thum!!!

Josiah's 4th Birthday Party

Yesterday afternoon Josiah had a Spiderman birthday party. We had a chocolate Spiderman cake and Josiah got lots of great gifts from his friends and family! All the kids were wearing their little spidey masks and playing with their web shooters - it was so cute! Thankfully it was warm enough to let the kids play outside in the yard and on the playset!

When Josiah woke up from his nap yesterday before the party he came out to the screened porch and saw all the decorations and balloons and said, "Thank you for my balloons!! I love my Spiderman stuff!" He was so excited!

I love doing things for my kids that make them happy!!! Check out all the party pics under the Family pics link! You'll notice Josiah still has his black eye!!

Dr. Check ups

So, today Ronnie and I took the boys for the 2 Year and 4 Year check ups. It's nice that their birthdays are close so we can take them together. Anyway, so I wasn't accused of abusing Josiah since he has a shiner on his eye. I was very proud of him reading the letters for the vision test and thankfully his black eye didn't interfere with that! He seemed so big going to the Dr. this time! So Josiah weighed 35 1/2 lbs and is 38 7/8" tall.

Josh on the other hand did not want the dr. to touch him. When he was checking his heart rate and all that he cried the whole time. We were interrupting his playtime. He even cried when they measured him! He obviously didn't want to be messed with! Josh weighed 28 1/2 lbs and is 35 1/2 inches tall! Josh is 2 inches taller and 3 lbs heavier than Josiah was at the age of 2!

I'm so very thankful that my boys are healthy and growing! Those of us that have perfectly healthy children do not know what it's like to have a son or daughter who has some kind of disease or handicapp. We should be thanking God every day for blessing us with healthy children!

Josiah's 4 Years old!

Yesterday was Josiah's 4th birthday and because it was Wednesday I made some cupcakes that he could take to his Rainbows class. He was so excited and wanted to carry them out to the van and hold them on the way there. Everything was fine until we got there and he dropped them in the parking lot. Thankfully, I had another plate of them. I only gave him the plate with 4 cupcakes. So, I salvaged 3 of the 4 that got messed up and those Rainbows ate all 12 cupcakes! Of course I left 6 at home for us to eat!

But, that wasn't the major thing that happened yesterday. Right before we left for church Josiah and Josh were jumping on my bed while I was getting ready and Josiah screamed louder than I've ever heard him scream. He had hit his face right next to his right eye on our headboard. He was crying so hard as I held him....I felt so bad! I immediately made the rule, "NO MORE MONKEY'S JUMPING ON THE BED!" (if you don't have that book, you should get it!) I will not let that happen again! So, of course it swelled up and is now black and blue. The bad thing is, Josiah and Josh have a dr. appt. on Friday, so Josiah will be there with his black eye and I'll get questioned like I'm an abusive parent. Oh I can't wait! At least Ronnie will be there to defend me! It doesn't look as bad in the picture.....how many black eyes are my boys going to get in this lifetime?

Growing up....

My boys are growing up so fast. Every day they do something that amazes me or makes me feel so proud of them. I just wanted to share some of the fun things they've been doing lately.

Josiah is acutally realizing now that his Papa is my daddy and Nana is my mommy and that his daddy works at the church because he's the youth pastor. He's starting to put things together and understand. And the last few days he's been eating his lunch or dinner and he'll say, "This is delicious mom! This is delicious!" It can be roast, enchildas or even just a peanut-butter and jelly sandwhich! They love to eat! We told him that when he eats all of his food that his muscles get bigger, so he keeps asking if his muscles are bigger and he keeps trying to show off his arm muscles! (that's what he's doing in his picture!) He's getting so good at playing his little games on the computer (PBS Kids or Playhouse Disney). We'll have to be careful that he doesn't grow up to be a computer geek like his Uncle Nathan!

Josh on the other hand is so smart with learnig his letters! We plays with a lot of Leap Frog toys and already knows half the alphabet or more and he just turned 2 last month! He learns so much from his big brother too! And I finally got Josh to start eating more meat. As long as he can dip it into some ketchup, he'll eat it! He sees the ketchup on his plate and says, "Dip, dip dip!" He's talking in complete sentences and what I love most of all is that every morning when we wakes up he comes and lays by his mommy in bed. Sometimes I can get both of them to lay by me for a few minutes before they're up and playing! And then there are other times when if he catches me laying down on the couch or the floor, he's jumping and crawling all of me like I'm a jungle gym! This week I finally got Josh to use his pedals on his tricycle. He usually just uses his feet, (like the Flinestones) but he's finally starting to peddle some now that he's getting long enough! Josh likes to talk loud and he can sound like a little wrestler! And it looks like we may have to start potty training again soon....ugh!

I love how close in age they are. Two years apart has proven to be perfect so far. I think they're favorite thing to do together is take all the pillows off the couch and jump off the couch onto the pillows. Here's a video of them doing just that! I love my rough, rowdy, cuddly, adorable, cute little boys!

New Shirts from Aunt Meggie

Just wanted to post a few cute pics of the boys in their new shirts they got from their Aunt Meggie and Uncle Chris. We have to wear our long sleeves while we can! We got a cold front the last couple of days, but by Sat. we'll be in the 70's. We actually have our heat on and are wearing coats!
